一切衆生悉有仏性 ‐ 庭野日敬師が目指した明るい社会運動

・蟻の目と鳥の目‐庭野日敬師の明るい社会づくり運動に不可欠な事、

明るい社会づくり運動を支えているのは、各地域にいる末端の会員さんたちです。
The movement to create a brighter society is supported by our grassroots members in each community.

その人たちは、各自の真心で庭野日敬師の教えを心に刻み、活動を支えています。
These people take the teachings of Reverend Nikkyo Niwano to heart with sincerity and support our activities.

また、その人たちの支えがなければ明るい社会づくり運動は成り立たないと言っても過言ではありません。
Furthermore, it is no exaggeration to say that without the support of these people, the movement to create a brighter society would not be possible.

そこで大切になるのは、その人たちの願いや思いに立つことだと思います。
I think the important thing here is to consider the wishes and thoughts of those people.

さらには、その活動が末端の地域の活動で終わるのではなく、庭野日敬師の宗教理念や宗教哲学に裏付けられた活動であることや、世界の平和や世界の環境問題へと繋がっていることを示していくことが不可欠なことだと思います。
Furthermore, I believe it is essential to demonstrate that these activities do not end as local activities, but are backed by the religious ideals and philosophy of Reverend Niwano, and that they are connected to world peace and global environmental issues.

少なくとも、明るい社会づくり運動は役員さんたちの活動ではなく、地域の末端で頑張っている方にスポットライトがあたることを主眼に置くことが求めています。
At the very least, the Bright Society Movement seeks to focus on shining the spotlight on people working hard at the grassroots level in the community, rather than on the activities of local officials.


そんな事を考えている時に、庭野日敬師のお言葉を思い出します。
When I think about this, I am reminded of the words of Reverend Niwano.

「開発」という言葉で樹木が伐り倒され、自然がどんどん破壊されています。
The word "development" is leading to the cutting down of trees and the rapid destruction of nature.

工場廃液は海に流されて海を汚し、海水中のプランクトンの量が激減しているそうです。
Factory wastewater is discharged into the ocean, polluting it and causing a sharp decline in the amount of plankton in the seawater.

人間が生きていくのには酸素が必要ですが、その酸素をつくり出すには樹木と植物プランクトンの働きが必要です。およそ全地球の酸素の三〇パーセントを樹木がつくり出し、七〇パーセントを海中の植物プランクトンがつくり出しているといいます。
Humans need oxygen to live, but we need the work of trees and phytoplankton to produce that oxygen. It is said that about 30 percent of the oxygen on earth is produced by trees, and 70 percent by phytoplankton in the ocean.

環境問題の専門家は、このまま自然破壊が進むと、近い将来、人類は戦争による危機よりもさらに重大な危機にさらされると警告しています。
Environmental experts warn that if destruction of the environment continues at this rate, humanity will face a threat even more serious than that caused by war in the near future.

外国では樹木を伐った場合、その数だけ樹木を植えることを法律で定めているところもあるそうです。
In some foreign countries, it is legally required that if a tree is cut down, an equal number of trees must be planted.

評論家の竹村健一さんは、事の実体を見極めるのには、地を這うように現実に即した視点で見る「蟻の目」と同時に、空を飛ぶ鳥のように大所高所から状況を見定める「鳥の目」の二つの見方を持つことが必要で、それでこそ道を誤らずに進むことができる、と言われています。
Critic Takemura Kenichi says that in order to discern the true nature of things, it is necessary to have two perspectives: an ant's eye view that looks at things from a realistic perspective, as if crawling on the ground, and a bird's eye view that assesses the situation from a high vantage point, like a bird flying in the sky, and that only then will one be able to proceed without going astray.

そうした観点に立って自然との調和をはからなければ、人類は自らの首を絞める結果になってしまいましょう。

今日は庭野日敬氏の著書であります、庭野日敬法話選集を拝読させていただきました。
Today I had the opportunity to read Selected Sermons by Niwano Nikkyo, a book written by Niwano Nikkyo.

何冊かある中で今回は法話選集６を手に取りました。
Of the several books available, I picked up Selected Sermons Volume 6 this time.

その内容は、国連軍縮特別総会に出席する事になる経緯から、世界宗教者平和会議に至る経緯や、その為の庭野日敬氏の理念・平和への実践、等がとてもわかりやすく書かれています。
The book contains a very easy-to-understand account of the circumstances that led to Nikkyo Niwano's attendance at the United Nations Special Session on Disarmament, the process that led to the World Conference of Religions for Peace, and his ideals and practice towards peace that led to this.

初心者の方でも、よく理解出来るように丁寧に書かれています。
It is written in a way that even beginners can easily understand.

その中に、何か所も明るい社会づくり運動の活動の在り方に付いても触れています。
It also touches upon the nature of the activities of the Bright Society Movement in several places.

私が気になった個所をこれから順次、ご紹介いたします。
I will now introduce the points that caught my attention one by one.

平和運動について、
About the peace movement

現在の日本の平和運動をみますと、私どもには、なかなか理解できないことがあるようです。平和運動の中に、もし、指導権争いとか、自己の主張だけを振り回すようなことがあれば、平和運動はゆがめられ、誤った方向に陥ってしまいます。これは運動の当事者が、あまりにも唯物史観に偏るため起こることではないかと考えます。
When we look at the current peace movement in Japan, there are some things that we find difficult to understand. If there are any struggles for leadership within the peace movement, or if people are only pushing their own positions, the peace movement will be distorted and will fall into the wrong direction. I think this happens because the people involved in the movement are too biased towards a materialistic view of history.

唯物思想や物質尊重の考えだけでは、ほんとうの平和は得られません。心の平和こそ、何よりたいせつであり、すべての平和運動は、ここから出発すべきものです。
True peace cannot be attained by materialistic thinking or the respect for material things alone. Peace of mind is what is most important, and it is from here that all peace movements must start.

仏法では〃物心一如〃と言って、物質と精神がどちらにも偏らないで、一体となることが、理想の境地であると説いています。また、他人のいぅことに耳をかさないで、自分のことばかり主張するようでは、争いが絶えません。
In Buddhism, there is a saying that "matter and mind are one," which teaches that the ideal state is for matter and spirit to be one without leaning too much to either. Also, if you don't listen to what others have to say and only insist on your own, conflicts will never end.

かえって、平和を乱すもとをつくることになります。意見が対立したり、理解がいかぬ場合は、納得のいくまで話し合うことがたいせつです。
If anything, it will create a source of disturbance to the peace. When there are differences of opinion or differences of understanding, it is important to continue talking until one is satisfied.




現代の社会では、自分独りでは生きられません。
In today's society, we cannot survive alone.

多くの人々の相互の助け合いと、社会の秩序が必要です。自分も他人もすべて、つながりをもち一体であるという境地に目覚めることが〃自他一体観〃です。
Mutual help from many people and social order are necessary. The "perspective of the unity of self and others" is the awakening to the state of mind that oneself and others are all connected and one.

党利党略にとらわれて、〃真実〃を見失うようでは、平和を口にする資格はないでしょぅ。
If we become so caught up in party interests that we lose sight of the "truth," we have no right to talk about peace.

〃物心一如〃といえ〃自他一体観〃といえ、釈尊が二千書年前に、われわれに説かれた真理です。大衆の先頭に立って、平和運動に挺身するような人こそ、物心一如の境地まで、自分自身を高め、自他一体観に目覚めなくてはなりません。
"The oneness of matter and mind" and "the view of the unity of self and others" are the truths that the Buddha taught us 2,000 years ago. Those who stand at the forefront of the masses and take part in the peace movement must raise themselves to the state of the oneness of matter and mind and awaken to the view of the unity of self and others.



考えてみますと、
Thinking about it,

釈尊は、人に教えを説き、みずからも実践されたかたですから、世界で最も偉大な、最も古い平和運動家だと言えましょぅ。
Since Shakyamuni both taught others and practiced peace himself, he can be said to be the world's greatest and oldest peace activist.

本会も釈尊の教えを人々に及ぼし、個人の完成や社会、国家の平和境建設を目指して活動しているわけです。今日ほど、世界に平和が求められているときはありません。
Our association also works to spread the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha to people, aiming for the perfection of individuals and the construction of a peaceful society and nation. There has never been a time when peace is needed in the world as much as it is today.

ただ、口に平和を叫ぶだけでなく、すべての人々がおのれ自身を反省し、他と協調していくことがたいせつです。ひとりでも多くの人が仏法の本義に目覚めて、日々の中に実践していくことにょって、ほんとうの平和が開けてくるものと思います。
However, rather than simply shouting words for peace, it is important that all people reflect upon themselves and cooperate with others. I believe that true peace will be realized if as many people as possible awaken to the true meaning of Buddhism and put it into practice in their daily lives.

長い間、明るい社会づくり運動に接してきましたがとても重要な事をお話しています。その中で、最も重要な事は理や理屈ではなく実践の尊さを繰り返しお話していただいています。
I have been involved in the Bright Society Movement for a long time, and I have heard some very important things from him. Among them, he repeatedly emphasizes the importance of putting things into practice, not theory or logic.

今、何をしなくてはいけないのか。
What do you need to do now?

今、何が出来るのかを真摯に受け止める事が求められる時期に来ている思います。
I believe that now is the time when we are required to seriously consider what we can do.

私は、これからの明るい社会づくり運動には、このような視点や感性を持ち合わせるリダーが必要不可欠だと思っています。
I believe that leaders who have this kind of perspective and sensibility are essential for the movement to create a brighter society in the future.

明るい社会づくり運動を提唱した、庭野日敬師の心情を思うと・・・・・・。
When I think of the feelings of Reverend Niwano Nikkyo, who advocated the movement to create a brighter society...

法座の衰退が、言われるようになって久しくなりますが、なかなか効果的な対策がなされないのが、現状ではないでしょうか。
The decline of the Dharma seat has been talked about for a long time, but the current situation is that no effective measures have been taken.

ともすると、そんな事はなかったかのように言われる事もあるようです。
Sometimes it seems as if it never happened.

でも、法座は庭野日敬師の具体的な教えの要になる事だと思います。その事が衰退して行く現実は寂しいものがあります。
However, I believe that the dharma seat is the core of the specific teachings of Reverend Niwano Nikkyo, and the reality that this is declining is saddening.

おそらく、「その為にどうすればいいのかがわかっていない」のではと思います。
Perhaps it's because they don't know what to do about it.

また、庭野家の方々や、佼成会の幹部さんでさえも分かっていないのではと、思える節が多々あります。
There are also many instances where it seems that even the members of the Niwano family and the executives of Kosei-kai do not understand.

その事は、あなたの身の回りの方々を眺めて見ていると、良く分かる事だと思います。
You can see this clearly by looking at the people around you.

そこで参考までにちょっと言いますと、法座には「法座修行」が不可欠になります。そこが、おろそかになると本末転倒になりかねません。
So, just for your reference, "Hoza training" is essential for the Hoza. If this is neglected, it can lead to upsetting the priorities.

また、法座を理論や理屈だけで解決しようとすると、どうしても無理があります。そこが、おろそかになるとすると悲しい結果になってしまいます。
Also, if you try to solve the Hoza problem with theory and logic alone, it will be impossible. If you neglect this, it will lead to sad results.

この事が、庭野家の方々や、佼成会の幹部さんに足りていないのが現在のありようだと受け止めています。
I believe that this is what is lacking among the Niwano family and the Kosei-kai executives, leading to the current situation.

また、この事は明るい社会づくり運動にも言える事ではないでしょうか。
Furthermore, the same can be said about the movement to create a brighter society.

そこで、庭野日敬師の著書を紐解くと大切な事が示されいます。
When we look into the writings of Reverend Niwano Nikkyo, we find important things.

Important things to note at the throne




「法座で結んでもらう」というときの「結ぶ」ということをひと言で言えば、相手の心を仏法に結びつけること、と言ってもいいでしょう。
In a word, the "tying" in "having one's heart tied at the Dharma seat" can be said to mean connecting the other person's heart to the Buddhist teachings.

迷っている人を仏さまに結びつけること、とも言えましょう。
It can also be said that it is about connecting lost people with Buddha.

仏縁、法縁という縁を結んであげることです。
It is to create a connection with Buddha and the Dharma.

そのためには、相手が「この人なら、すべてを打ち明けることができる」という親しみ、信頼感をもてることがなによりも大事です。
To achieve this, it is most important that the other person feels close to you and trusts you, making them feel like "I can confide everything in this person."

たとえば、すぐに怒りだすような人に向かって「それがいけない」と、頭から決めつけるのではなく、「あなたは根が正直だから、ちょっとした間違いも許しておけないのですね」と言ってあげる心くばりが必要です。
For example, when faced with someone who gets angry easily, instead of immediately deciding that "that's wrong," it is important to be considerate and say, "You are fundamentally honest, so you can't tolerate even small mistakes."

また、ご主人の浮気で悩んでいる奥さんに「あなたが冷たいからですよ」と言うのは簡単ですが、そこのところで、「あなたは心はやさしいのに言い方がきつくなってしまうんじやないですか」とか、「ご主人のことを思っていのだけど表現の仕方が下手なのかもしれませんね」と、やさしく包みこんであげる心の広さをもつことが大切なのです。
Also, it's easy to tell a wife who is worried about her husband's infidelity, "It's because you're cold-hearted," but it's important to have the broad-mindedness to gently embrace her by saying, "Maybe you have a kind heart, but your words can be harsh," or, "You care about your husband, but maybe you're not good at expressing it."

つまり、結ぶ人は慈悲心による包容力をもたなくてはならないのです。
In other words, the person who makes the connection must have the capacity for tolerance and compassion.

因縁果報の理だけでびしびし裁くのではなく、理とともに思いやりの情がはたらかなくてはなりません。相手を法の縁に結んであげるための結びが、「もう二度と教会など行くものか」といった気持ちにさせてしまったのでは、結びにならなくなってしまいます。
Rather than sternly judging people based solely on the principle of karma, we must also be compassionate. If the bond that is meant to connect someone to the law ends up making them think, "I'm never going to church again," then it will no longer be a bond.

相手の内に眠る仏性が目覚めるようにもっていがなくてはなりません。相手の人がその結びをどれだけ深く自覚できるかによって救われの度合いが決まるのです。
We must help the other person to awaken the Buddha nature that lies dormant within him. The degree to which the other person is able to realize this connection determines the degree of his salvation.

瓶の水を一滴も残さず次の瓶に移すように、立正佼成会の教えを次の世代に伝えたいという願いが、書名『瀉瓶無遺(しゃびょうむい)』にこめられています。仏教徒として、佼成会員として守り伝えるべき信仰の核心について、信仰者の毎日の行の一つひとつについて、具体的に説き示されています。
The title of the book, ``Shabyomui,'' reflects the desire to pass on the teachings of Rissho Koseikai to the next generation, just as one should transfer every drop of water from one bottle to the next. It explains in detail the core of the faith that we, as Buddhists and Kosei members, must protect and pass on, and each of the daily actions of believers.
