庭野日敬師の残された著作物を拝見させていただくと、色々な面で非常に勉強になります。
Looking at the writings left behind by Reverend Niwano Nikkyo has taught me a lot in many ways.

特に感心する事は、難しい事をわかりやすく丁寧にお話していただいている点です。
What especially impressed me was how he explained difficult topics in a clear and detailed manner.

また、お話していただいている事がとても奥深いので、お話がわかりやすいだけに、とても大切な事をつい、何気なく見過ごしてしまう事があります。
Also, because what is being said is so profound and easy to understand, it is easy to overlook very important points without even realizing it.

私などは、勉強不足ですのでなかなか真似する事は出来ませんが、いつの日のか、難しい事をわかりやすく丁寧にお話し出来るようになりたいと思っています。

　聖マリアンナ医科大学の坂本堯・名誉教授が「庭野先生が明杜運動を提唱されたのは人間の本性の回復を目指されたのではないか。宗教の枠を枠えて人類愛という枠組みで提唱されたのではないか」と話されております。
Secretary-General Oshima:
Professor Emeritus Takashi Sakamoto of St. Marianna University School of Medicine said, "I believe that when Professor Niwano proposed the Meido Movement, he aimed to restore the true nature of human beings. He proposed it outside the framework of religion, within the framework of love for humanity."

庭野開祖－
　自分で活動してみてわかるんですが、やはり人を集め、動く時には識者の協力が大切なんです。地獄というのも極楽というのも、つまるところは、人間の心の中あるわけですから、どうしても世界、そして足元の日本社会のことを考えざるを得ない。そうした時に、仏教でう緑、これを梵語で「プラティヤヤ」といいますが、この言葉には「信頼、誠実、証」という含意があるのです。ですから、論者の皆さんからご緑を頂くためには、どうしても、私たち自身が信頼と誠実の証を身もって示さなければなりません。ですから、仏道修行と明杜とは別次元のものではないのですね。
Niwano Founder:
I've learned from my own activities that it's important to gather people and get the cooperation of knowledgeable people when taking action. Hell and paradise are both in the human heart, so we can't help but think about the world and Japanese society at our feet. In that case, the word "green" in Buddhism is called "pratyaya" in Sanskrit, and this word implies "trust, sincerity, proof." Therefore, in order to receive the support of the debaters, we must ourselves demonstrate proof of trust and sincerity. Therefore, Buddhist practice and enlightenment are not on different levels.

大島事務局長－
　いろいろな会議に参加された方が、懸命にボランティアをされている佼成会員の後ろ姿に感動し、「佼成会の信仰は素晴らしい」と話しておられました。明社活動における佼成会の姿勢とかかわり方について開祖さまの願い、思いはございますか。
Secretary-General Oshima:
People who have attended various conferences have been moved by the sight of Kosei members working hard as volunteers, and have commented that "Kosei-kai's faith is wonderful." What are the founder's hopes and thoughts regarding Kosei-kai's attitude and involvement in Meisha activities?

庭野開祖－
　その点については、黒子というか、縁の下の力持ちに徹する姿勢を今後も続けていってほしいですね。法華経では方便（正しい手段）を非常に大事にする。真理も譬諭の形をとって、初めて表現される。そのためには方便は欠かせない大事なものなのです。オアシス運動というのも、どこかの明社から生まれたのではなかったかな。おはようございますのオ、ありがとうのア、失礼しましたのシ、すみませんのス　―　これだって立派な運動ですよ。アイデア、つまり方便です。
Founder Niwano:
In that regard, I hope that he will continue to play the role of a supporting actor, or a behind-the-scenes player. The Lotus Sutra places great importance on expedient means (correct methods). Truth can only be expressed in the form of a parable. For that reason, expedient means are essential. I believe the Oasis movement also originated from a certain Ming dynasty. O for good morning, A for thank you, S for excuse me - this is also a fine movement. It's about ideas, that is, expedient means.

当たり前を当たり前に行う

大島事務局長－
　井深大・前明社会長が「明るい社会づくりという崇高な運動を継続し、進めていくためには人柄で進めていく以外にない。その人柄はどうしてできるか。それは信念がもとである。その信念のもととは何かというと人生観であり、哲学であり、儒仰である」と話されております。明社はこれからどう取り組んでいけばよろしいのですか。
Secretary General Oshima:
Ibuka Masaru, former president of Meido, said, "The only way to continue and advance the noble cause of creating a bright society is through character. How can we develop character? It is based on conviction. The basis of conviction is a view of life, philosophy, and Confucianism." How should Meido tackle this issue from now on?

庭野開祖－
　感謝してやれば何事でも成就するんです。不平でやったならば成就しないんですよ。世界中の人が望んでいる平和だから、そのための活動に皆さんが賛成してくださる。きわめてわかりやすいんです。何も特別なことをするのではない。当たり前のことを当たり前にできる人づくりですね。世界中がみんな手をつなぎ、異体同心となって幸せな世界をつくろうという考えをもち、実践していこうということです。
Founder Niwano:
If you do something with gratitude, it will come true. If you do it with dissatisfaction, it will not come true. Peace is what people all over the world want, so they support activities to achieve it. It's very easy to understand. It's not about doing anything special. It's about developing people who can do the ordinary things as an ordinary thing. It's about having the idea that everyone in the world should join hands, be united in spirit and unite to create a happy world, and putting that into practice.

大島事務局長－
人のためになりたいと思っている。だから皆で力を合わせ、実践していけば必ず素晴らしいものができるはずだ」と話されていました。この簡単なひと音のなかに人類に対する信頼、社会に対する信頼というものが込められているのですね。
Secretary-General Oshima:
"I want to be of service to people. So if we all work together and put it into practice, I'm sure we can create something wonderful," he said. This simple syllable embodies trust in humanity and trust in society.

庭野開祖－
　そこをわかってもらえばありがたいですね。みんな心の底では同じ思いなんです。
Founder Niwano: I would be grateful if you could understand that. Deep down, we all feel the same way.

明社の大導師は仏さま

　発足して二十五年を迎えた明杜運動の新たな出発に際して何かお言葉、お考えがありますか。
Secretary-General Oshima:
Now that the Meido Movement has been in existence for 25 years, do you have any words or thoughts for us as we embark on a new journey?

庭野開祖－
　山田恵諦貌下が常におっしゃっていた「よいことは長く続く。よくないことでないと長続きしない」ということです。法華経というのは二もなく三もなく「一仏乗」なんです。仏さまの願いというものは、すべての人を仏の境地へ導き、本当の幸せにしてあげたいという一事につきるんです。「草木国土悉皆成仏」という言葉がありますように人間はむろん、草も木も水も士もすべて仏になれるんです。そして、大調和した明るく幸せな世の中は、われわれの努力次第で必ずつくり出せるのです。
Niwano Founder -
Yamada Keitai always said, "Good things last a long time. If it's not bad, it won't last long." The Lotus Sutra is "One Buddha Vehicle" without a second or third. The Buddha's wish is to lead everyone to the state of Buddhahood and make them truly happy. As the saying goes, "All the grass, trees, and land become Buddhas," so of course humans, grass, trees, water, and warriors can all become Buddhas. And if we make an effort, we can definitely create a bright and happy world in great harmony.

　それが明社が目指す最終のゴールでしょうか。
Secretary General Oshima: Is that the ultimate goal that Meisha is aiming for?

庭野開祖－
　そういうことです。いわば、明るい社会づくりの大導師は仏さまなんですよ。
Niwano Founder: That's right. In other words, the Buddha is the great leader in creating a brighter society.

私は、この事にはとても奥深い意味があるように思って、常に大切に心に刻んでいます。

ただ残念なのは、私にはこの事を他の人に、わかりやすく説明する事が出来ません。

私が以前に行いました、明るい社会づくり運動の実態調査から様々な事を教えていただきました。その中には、順調に活動を進めている地域もありましたが、逆にまたそうでない地域もありました。また、順調に活動を進めている地域と、またそうでない地域の中にも、共通点がある事が分かりました。

現状の把握が不可欠

私は、明るい社会づくり運動が今後さらなる飛躍をして行くためには、現状の利点と不利点の解析をする事が必要不可欠になると思います。

その為には、現状がどうなっているのかを知る必要があると思っています。

現状の把握を行い、現状の分析がしっかり出来ない限り、本当の意味での利点と不利点の解析が出来ません。また、正確な現状の把握や分析が出来ない以上、その為の効果的な対策を講じる事は難しいと思います。

辛い現実にも向き合う事が不可欠

その為には、時には辛い現実とも向き合わなければならない事もあると思います。でも、そこから逃げる事無く、前向きに取り組む姿勢を示す事が求められていると考えます。

私の所にお送りいただきましたメールの中に、大変重要な意見をお持ちの方がいらっしゃいました。

その方は長年の間、明るい社会づくり運動に携わって来られた方です。また、庭野日敬師の思いを理解し、ご自身の地元で大変に努力された方です。

それだけに、明るい社会づくり運動の実態をご自身の目でしっかりと見つめ、現状を把握している方です。

そして分析をなされ、課題点からその対策までをしっかりとしたお考えをお持ちの方です。


以下に、ご紹介をさせていただきます。

報告書より

　明るい社会づくり運動の組織において地区協議会が当面する共通課題として、役員やリーダーの高齢化や不足に悩み、世代交代が進まずそのまま組織の活力の停滞を招き、有効な手を打てないまま組織の解散や運動の実態のない地区もでてくるようになった。

停滞を招く原因として、
リーダーの意識に大半の理由があるように見受けられる。役員としては会員から会費や協賛会費を募り、運動方針を決めた以上活動をやめるわけにはいかないと考えてはいるが、意識がそれ以上でもそれ以下でもなく活動は一応継続されているが、活動の範囲を広げたり頻度を上げたりといった発展的な取り組みに欠けており現状維持ということになる。

したがって、新たなメンバーが加わるチャンスも生まれにくいという悪循環が生まれくる。

さらに、「中心となり、下支えするメンバーが不足している」ということについては、組織の中でリーダーの育成がうまくいっていないという状況も見えてきます。

従って必然的に、リーダーの世代交代は難しくなります。

昭和４０年代後半に先駆的リーダーにより、全国の都道府県を網羅するかたちで上位下達方式に組織化された明社運動は任意団体 ― 法人化 ― 任意団体と組織も変遷してきた。

運動提唱者の精神を原点として自治体単位に組織化され、地域に根づいた活動を推進してきているが、どちらかと言えば、「大勢で一緒にやる」エリア型の活動は伝統的に強いが、テーマ型を目指すＮＰＯやボランティアグループのようなＮＰＯ型の活動は不得手であった。

従って地域のネットワーク化を目指し法人化されたときには、エリア型活動で進んできた伝統的組織である明社組織内に、少なからず混乱をきたした。

明るい社会づくり運動が取り組むテーマがエリア（地縁）型であれ、広域にわたるテーマ型であれ、永年の間、当面している課題解決のための取り組みに没頭するうちに、取り組みそのものを維持することが目的化してしまいがちで、そこには、課題の変化が見えなくなってしまい、柔軟な対応ができず組織の硬直化を招くという落とし穴があったのではないかと思われる。

特に次世代や若者が参画するような企画が少なく、

組織が新たな課題にチャレンジするエネルギーを得るという大事な側面が欠落している。 課題の変化に対応するという組織の柔軟な取り組みが様々な世代が関わり合う環境をつくることによって可能となるが、次世代との協働をすすめる取り組みが組織の柔軟性を生むことで活動が活性化するということもあるわけです。

従い、テーマ型にせよエリア型にせよ

組織の結束が維持されていくには、この点の理解をもとに組織内部の役割分担を明確にして機能のすみわけについて合意を得るということが、まず内部の協働力を強めるポイントであると考えられる。

それを課題としてとらえるならば、
課題の変化に対応するチャレンジを積極的に行うこと、組織の活動や運営の中に積極的に異世代協働をつくりだすことが大切だということになります。

そして責任ある活動ができるように、研修や養成の機会（人材養成事業）を具体的に用意する取り組みが大変重要です。

今日は庭野日敬氏の著書であります、庭野日敬法話選集を拝読させていただきました。
Today I had the opportunity to read Selected Sermons by Niwano Nikkyo, a book written by Niwano Nikkyo.

何冊かある中で今回は法話選集６を手に取りました。
Of the several books available, I picked up Selected Sermons Volume 6 this time.

その内容は、国連軍縮特別総会に出席する事になる経緯から、世界宗教者平和会議に至る経緯や、その為の庭野日敬氏の理念・平和への実践、等がとてもわかりやすく書かれています。
The book contains a very easy-to-understand account of the circumstances that led to Nikkyo Niwano's attendance at the United Nations Special Session on Disarmament, the process that led to the World Conference of Religions for Peace, and his ideals and practice towards peace that led to this.

初心者の方でも、よく理解出来るように丁寧に書かれています。
It is written in a way that even beginners can easily understand.

その中に、何か所も明るい社会づくり運動の活動の在り方に付いても触れています。
It also touches upon the nature of the activities of the Bright Society Movement in several places.

私が気になった個所をこれから順次、ご紹介いたします。
I will now introduce the points that caught my attention one by one.

平和運動について、
About the peace movement

現在の日本の平和運動をみますと、私どもには、なかなか理解できないことがあるようです。平和運動の中に、もし、指導権争いとか、自己の主張だけを振り回すようなことがあれば、平和運動はゆがめられ、誤った方向に陥ってしまいます。これは運動の当事者が、あまりにも唯物史観に偏るため起こることではないかと考えます。
When we look at the current peace movement in Japan, there are some things that we find difficult to understand. If there are any struggles for leadership within the peace movement, or if people are only pushing their own positions, the peace movement will be distorted and will fall into the wrong direction. I think this happens because the people involved in the movement are too biased towards a materialistic view of history.

唯物思想や物質尊重の考えだけでは、ほんとうの平和は得られません。心の平和こそ、何よりたいせつであり、すべての平和運動は、ここから出発すべきものです。
True peace cannot be attained by materialistic thinking or the respect for material things alone. Peace of mind is what is most important, and it is from here that all peace movements must start.

仏法では〃物心一如〃と言って、物質と精神がどちらにも偏らないで、一体となることが、理想の境地であると説いています。また、他人のいぅことに耳をかさないで、自分のことばかり主張するようでは、争いが絶えません。
In Buddhism, there is a saying that "matter and mind are one," which teaches that the ideal state is for matter and spirit to be one without leaning too much to either. Also, if you don't listen to what others have to say and only insist on your own, conflicts will never end.

かえって、平和を乱すもとをつくることになります。意見が対立したり、理解がいかぬ場合は、納得のいくまで話し合うことがたいせつです。
If anything, it will create a source of disturbance to the peace. When there are differences of opinion or differences of understanding, it is important to continue talking until one is satisfied.

現代の社会では、自分独りでは生きられません。
In today's society, we cannot survive alone.

多くの人々の相互の助け合いと、社会の秩序が必要です。自分も他人もすべて、つながりをもち一体であるという境地に目覚めることが〃自他一体観〃です。
Mutual help from many people and social order are necessary. The "perspective of the unity of self and others" is the awakening to the state of mind that oneself and others are all connected and one.

党利党略にとらわれて、〃真実〃を見失うようでは、平和を口にする資格はないでしょぅ。
If we become so caught up in party interests that we lose sight of the "truth," we have no right to talk about peace.

〃物心一如〃といえ〃自他一体観〃といえ、釈尊が二千書年前に、われわれに説かれた真理です。大衆の先頭に立って、平和運動に挺身するような人こそ、物心一如の境地まで、自分自身を高め、自他一体観に目覚めなくてはなりません。
"The oneness of matter and mind" and "the view of the unity of self and others" are the truths that the Buddha taught us 2,000 years ago. Those who stand at the forefront of the masses and take part in the peace movement must raise themselves to the state of the oneness of matter and mind and awaken to the view of the unity of self and others.

考えてみますと、
Thinking about it,

釈尊は、人に教えを説き、みずからも実践されたかたですから、世界で最も偉大な、最も古い平和運動家だと言えましょぅ。
Since Shakyamuni both taught others and practiced peace himself, he can be said to be the world's greatest and oldest peace activist.

本会も釈尊の教えを人々に及ぼし、個人の完成や社会、国家の平和境建設を目指して活動しているわけです。今日ほど、世界に平和が求められているときはありません。
Our association also works to spread the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha to people, aiming for the perfection of individuals and the construction of a peaceful society and nation. There has never been a time when peace is needed in the world as much as it is today.

ただ、口に平和を叫ぶだけでなく、すべての人々がおのれ自身を反省し、他と協調していくことがたいせつです。ひとりでも多くの人が仏法の本義に目覚めて、日々の中に実践していくことにょって、ほんとうの平和が開けてくるものと思います。
However, rather than simply shouting words for peace, it is important that all people reflect upon themselves and cooperate with others. I believe that true peace will be realized if as many people as possible awaken to the true meaning of Buddhism and put it into practice in their daily lives.

長い間、明るい社会づくり運動に接してきましたがとても重要な事をお話しています。その中で、最も重要な事は理や理屈ではなく実践の尊さを繰り返しお話していただいています。

今、何をしなくてはいけないのか。

I believe that leaders who have this kind of perspective and sensibility are essential for the movement to create a brighter society in the future.
